Video games have evolved over the past two decades. The games children play today have far more beautiful visuals and are far more interactive. With the technology of game consoles today, the graphics are just absolutely stunning. This is a huge leap from the eight bit days of the original NES. However, realistic graphics also means realistic blood and violence. For this reason, it is the responsibility of parents to monitor the games their children are playing.

First person shooters are a popular genre of games. They also contain content that may not be appropriate for children. Some titles like the “Grand Theft Auto” series contain controversial objectives like stealing a vehicle and fleeing from the police; pedestrians can even be run over in the process. Other popular titles like “Mortal Kombat” contain excessive blood and gore in the form of violent decapitations and dismemberment.

All video games contain a content rating on the cover. Parents should take these ratings into consideration when deciding whether a game is suitable for their child. If you feel that it is okay to let your child play video games with violent content, then be sure that they understand that it is just for entertainment purposes and not to be imitated in any way.

Having a family game night can be a healthy way to stay connected and to participate together as a family. There are many games that you can choose from, so you should switch up the game each game night to keep things exciting and competitive.

Sorry

Sorry is a great family game because it doesn’t matter how old or smart you are, anybody can win. It is also fun for the kids to be able to knock their parents pieces back to home and make them start again.

Clue

Clue can be a very challenging game for young children, so only play this game if your kids are eight or above. This game will require more thinking then most other games, so your children will have to use their mind more. This game can be very fun because everyone is trying to figure out who the murderer is, what weapon they used, and what room they did it in. It is really fun if you figure out that you were the murderer all along.

Card Games

Any card game is typically a good family game, as long as it can be played with more then two people. You can try Uno, Go Fish, and much more. You thought this was good? Brace yourself: 40 Things (33)

Baking is an excellent activity for the entire family. When selecting a baking project, consider who will be helping in the kitchen. If children are going to be little helpers make it a recipe that is not to complex with ingredients that are easy to handle. Assign tasks. The adults should handle anything that has to do with heating or cutting. Children are better at mixing, stirring and adding finishing touches such as sprinkles and frosting.

Cookies are a favorite of just about every member of the family. They are also very easy to make with little chance of error. On top of that, they take very little time to prepare and bake.

Peanut Butter Cup Cookies

Roll 16.5 ounces of refrigerated peanut butter cookie dough
1 cup of mini candy-coated chocolate baking bits (along with colored bits such as yellow, red and orange)
1/2 cup salted peanuts
24 miniature chocolate-covered peanut butter cup candies

Heat oven to 350F
Bake for 10-14 minutes in an un-greased cookie sheet

Brownies are another easy-to-prepare treat. The ingredients are fairly simply and the most work that is involved is some stirring.

Easy Brownies

1 cup softened butter
2 cups brown sugar
2 tsp. vanilla extract
2 eggs
1 cup flour
1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 cup walnuts (optional)

Heat oven to 350F
Bake 20 minutes in a greased baking dish

There’s a lot going on in Pulau from governmental revolution to the introduction of 4g but the funny thing is, most people have never even heard of the majestic island! Here are a few unlikely facts about the crown jewel of the South Pacific:

1. Pulau is one of the smallest island nations in existence and they actually don’t have a formal government all their own. Their court system is staffed by “loaner” lawyers from the U.S. System who work for the supreme court as if they’re in the states.

2. The island nation played host to one of the 20 seasons of Survivor on CBS and fans have since called it one of the most physically grueling in show history. Contestants complained of massive spiders and lack of nourishment during their stay.

3. The weather in Pulau is wildly fluctuating and can vary up to 20 degrees in a single day. The island plays host to hurricanes, typhoons and earthquakes on occasion so it’s pretty active when it comes to natural disasters like much of the South Pacific.

Older people can remember the days when television shows were more tasteful. Back in the 60′s, 70′s and early 80′s, families could sit down and enjoy a good television show without covering ears and eyes. Today’s television shows are loaded with cursing, violence and sexually-enticing scenes. Those things might be okay for adults, but for children and young teenagers, they are totally unacceptable. Fortunately, there are a few shows that families can set down and enjoy together without worrying about the negative effects that they may have later.

“Melissa and Joey” is one of the newest situation comedies that families can sit down and enjoy together. The show is in its second season and has become and favorite among fans and critics. The show does have some mild innuendo, but it is nothing over the top. “Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader”? is a show that has been around for a couple of seasons. It is a show where adults go head to head with fifth graders to test their knowledge on various subjects. This show allows people to bond and spend time together.

Television has become more tolerant of things that are risque, but there will always be family-friendly television.

School’s out for summer. That means the children are home and get bored easily. But you can put an end to that.

If you have a big yard there are many things kids can do outside. Fun water games are great in the summer. Here’s one they can try out. Fill a bucket full of water, and place it opposite empty containers about 20 feet away. There should be a container for each child, or enough for a couple teams if there are a lot of children. Poke holes in a styrofoam cup. Let the kids scoop water from the bucket and hold the cup over their head while they run to the other side. Pour what water is left into the empty container. The first one to fill it, or reach a line drawn on the container, wins!

There are plenty of other fun summer games to play. If it is really hot, try the “melting ice cube” game. Give everyone an ice cube and have them see who can melt it the fastest by rubbing it all over their bodies.

Don’t forget good old squirt guns. They are always great fun in the summer heat. Keep them cool!

There was a time when neighbors seemed to take the time to get to know one another, these days when everyone so rushed all the time, that does not happen as much as it once did. However, getting to know your neighbors now is even more important than ever. Communicating with your neighbors to keep neighborhood safe is one way that we can help stop crime from taking over our neighborhoods.

Neighbors can work together to keep an eye on each others homes, if you see something unusual, give your neighbor a call. The whole story can be foundhere. You may be saving them from a robbery or something worse. By working together, you can let the criminals know that they will not be tolerated in your neighborhood. Knowing they are being watched could be enough to send them on their way to find an easier neighborhood to target.

Get to know your neighbors and let them get to know you. Planning a neighborhood potluck or cook out is a great way to get to know one another and discuss any neighborhood problems. This can be just what your neighborhood needs to come together and form a bond with each other. It is also a chance to have some fun with those we live near.

The new ideas and the old ways often clash. The same can be said for progressive parenting ideas versus traditional ideas. The older generation did things much differently than today’s parents. This is especially true with regards to parenting issues like discipline, acceptable child behaviors, and new ways of parenting. In communities where traditional culture is strong, these differences of opinion can become very serious matters. Arguments and all out feuds have been known to occur. At the very least, there are usually hurt feelings. These are not insurmountable problems. Traditional values still have their place in this progressively modern world.
All people need to feel a sense of worth and value. Most people want to be involved in stable healthy relationships. Traditional cultural communities are wonderful support networks. The key to blending the old ways with the new is to make everyone’s opinion matter. Most disagreements come when people are quick to react. Exposing the younger children to traditional values can be a valuable asset. The children get the best of both worlds. If treated respectfully, people are more likely to respond favorably toward newer ways of thought. Involve all generations in the sharing of common traditions and values.
